IOWA MEDICAL SOCIETY INTERNSHIP
During the summer and fall of 2023, I worked as a communications intern at the Iowa Medical Society (IMS). IMS is a professional association for Iowa physicians (DO and MD) whose mission is "to advance the practice of medicine through advocacy, education, and engagement with physicians throughout Iowa to ensure the highest quality of care for the patients they serve." Below are some of the projects I contributed to or completed.

The Quarterly IMS Magazine
IMS produced two issues of Iowa Medicine during my internship; a third was in the works when I left. For the two issues completed, I wrote feature articles, edited others' content, and provided input on the visual layout of the magazines. One of my feature articles, "Fighting the Stigma - Addressing Physician Mental Health," was the cover story.
Social Media Management
IMS has social media profiles on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, and Instagram. I was tasked with planning, drafting, scheduling, and posting content on each platform. During my internship, I also tracked the profile metrics on each platform, including followers and engagements (likes and comments). Each platform saw an increase in total followers and engagement by the end of my internship.
Presentation Creation for IMS Board of Directors
I created and designed a presentation for the IMS Board of Directors based on the information IMS had collected through their annual member survey. While the presentation is not available to the public, this project involved using Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel to create visual representations of the data gathered in the survey. Information included member demographics, top legislative priorities, member satisfaction and engagement, and how IMS could better serve its members. The final presentation was presented at the IMS Board of Directors meeting in July 2023.
